Brussels Sprouts Sautéed with Bacon

This recipe comes from the Dutch side of my family, and is a holiday favorite at family gatherings. You won’t need any butter or oil whatsoever, just good ‘ole bacon grease!

Ingredients (serves 2-3):

  • 1 9 oz package of brussels sprouts, sliced in half
  • 4 strips of thickly sliced bacon, chopped
  • 1 shallot, thinly sliced

Fry the bacon in a pan at medium heat until cooked and crispy. Set aside on a plate with paper towel, keep the bacon grease in the pan. Add the shallots and stir until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the brussels sprouts and stir to coat. Cover and reduce heat to simmer. Cook for 10 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork. Pour into a serving dish and toss with the bacon. Enjoy!
